Physical Computing: Initial Ideas

As someone with a unique perspective and outlook on the world around us, I have 3 loose ideas for what I want to explore project-wise:

  1. An interactive game that's akin to whack-a-mole. A big part of my creative practice reaches back to the things I remember enjoying as a kid, when I was most playful. It'd be interesting to explore how this could come to life with the tools I've gained over the last 4-5 weeks in the IMA Low-Res program.

  2. A synesthesia machine that allows users to see what it's like to associate visual elements with sound. If a user taps on a specific colored button, associated sounds come out and something visual happens on the screen. I'd want to include the functionality to create a distinct piece of artwork that corresponds to the buttons pressed in-session and offer it as a leave-behind piece via QR code.

  3. A device that reads a floppy disk and the device reacts by either displaying associated “data” in the form of images, video and/or sounds.

Each of these project ideas speak to my interests in media, nostalgia and the digital art forms. I'm leaning towards the synesthesia machine because it speaks to me the most; being able to see colors when I hear sounds or being able to see actual words when I hear people speak seems like a worthy "ailment" to lean into.
